Packing for a beach trip is an exciting endeavor. There is sunscreen, beach towels, a few foldable chairs, blankets, a picnic basket, a speaker, and any item you can throw into the mix that will enhance the experience of being beneath a warm sun.

Yet, the fun to be had often hinges upon the essentials that you’ve packed.

For that, the team at Price Self Storage built you a substantial list of seaside essentials. With this beach trip packing list, you’ll always have the things you need for the sandy moment you deserve.

#1 Sunscreen, of Course!

First on the beach packing list is sunscreen. According to the CDC, the sun emits ultraviolet (UV) rays that may cause skin damage in as little as fifteen minutes. While a nice tan is always the goal, you need to lounge beachside safely.

Pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen, or a sunscreen that protects your skin from the two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. In fact, deep-penetrating UVA rays can prematurely age your skin by causing wrinkles and age spots. UVB rays, on the other hand, are the sunbeams that burn your skin.

To that end, you’ll also want a sunscreen that’s water-resistant, especially if you’re planning to spend a significant amount of time in the water. Reapply the sunscreen regularly to ensure continual protection.

When it comes to SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, it’s recommended to choose a sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher. SPF is the measure of how much solar energy is required to burn your skin.

So naturally, higher is better.

A sun hat may also protect you from harmful UV exposure.

#2 Lounging Equipment

Lounging equipment is a fantastic starting point when planning what to bring to the beach. Fill your trunk with ample beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach blankets. Some beachgoers even opt for a tent to protect themselves from the sun and provide extra privacy.

If you already have a collection of beach gear, it may be helpful to store it in one of Price Self Storage’s individual storage facilities near one of your favorite beachside locales. With our month-to-month leases, spacious units, and wide range of sizes, you can have your own close-to-the-beach “garage” filled with everything you need to enjoy a wonderful day in the sun!

#3 Picnic Pickings (Insulated Bag, Plenty of Water)

After hours of seaside fun, you’re bound to get hungry. If your beach of choice is more secluded, it’s optimal to bring a few snacks or even a full feast. Consider opting for a fruity refreshment, or dining on sandwiches and chips.

Pack your food in an insulated bag or Ziploc. Be sure to include a variety of treats that withstand high temperatures. Although a popsicle may sound refreshing, its solvent body is not optimal for warm days at the beach.

#4 Sand Toys

Sand toys are an especially fun addition to a day near the ocean, particularly if you have a toddler in tow.

Fetch water-filled buckets from the sea and craft glorious sandcastles with plastic shovels and rakes. Some beach toy sets even include animal and castle molds to build an entire seaside kingdom.

Also, foldable pails and buckets are a rewarding option for parents trying to save car space.

#5 Marine Equipment

For the adventurous spirit, there’s marine equipment. Explore the aquatic underworld with snorkel gear and flippers, or opt for an adrenaline-filled surf sesh. Wakeboards are also a wonderful way to catch a few waves.

It may also be beneficial to bring along a few pairs of water shoes to avoid stepping on any sharp rocks or prickly sea creatures that may lurk beneath the waves.

#6 First Aid Kit and Medication

It’s important to always be prepared for an emergency. Ensure you and your fellow beachgoers are safe by including a first aid kit in your packing list.

Essentials include aspirin tablets, antibiotic ointment, hand sanitizer, plastic bandages, scissors, and tweezers. Also consider bringing along any essentials you may need, such as contact lenses, contact solution, or glasses.

#7 Entertainment

Planning a leisurely day on the beach? Don’t forget a good read! Pack your favorite novel alongside any chargers or earphones you may need to listen to music.

If you’re more of the active type, a beach volleyball set or cornhole board will keep you active, entertained, and moving.

#8 Extra Clothing

Beach trips are known to get a little messy. Pack any additional clothing you may need, including a change of dry clothes, walking shoes, or a light jacket if you plan to stay after sunset.

#9 Guidebook or List of Amenities, Restaurants Nearby

Last, but certainly not least on the list of things to bring to the beach is a guidebook—one that highlights local eats, shops, and restaurants. Take some time to research the area before trekking to the beach to identify a few places you can head to after your relaxing day.
